Dunster Tithe Barn
Dunster, Somerset, TA24 6RY
Dunster Tithe Barn is an extraordinary medieval venue in one of Exmoor's most picturesque villages. Dating from around 1500, this Grade II* listed barn with its massive oak roof trusses offers a hire experience unlike any modern village hall. Dunster Castle towers above the village, the octagonal Yarn Market stands in the high street, and the ancient packhorse bridge crosses the River Avill.
The barn accommodates 70 seated beneath its magnificent timber roof, creating a breathtaking setting for weddings and special celebrations. The stone walls and flagstone floor add character, though modern heating ensures comfort. A small preparation kitchen is available, and most hirers use external caterers for larger events.
Dunster sits on the edge of Exmoor National Park, with spectacular coastal walking along the South West Coast Path at nearby Minehead. The West Somerset Railway, England's longest heritage line, terminates at Dunster station. The village's shops include an award-winning deli and several galleries.
Minehead is 2 miles east, Taunton 25 miles south. Parking is available in the village pay-and-display car park. The barn is at ground level but the historic floor surface may present challenges for wheelchair users.
