Reach Village Hall
Reach, Cambridgeshire, CB25 0JD
Reach Village Hall overlooks the expansive Fair Green in a small Fenland village with a history that belies its modest size. Reach was an important medieval port — Devil's Dyke, a massive Anglo-Saxon earthwork, terminates here, and the village's annual May Day Fair has been held on the green since 1201, making it one of England's oldest surviving fairs.
The hall is compact, seating 40, and provides a cosy space for village activities and small private events. A basic kitchen and modern heating keep the hall functional, and its position overlooking the green makes it pleasant in all seasons.
Reach sits at the edge of Wicken Fen, the National Trust's oldest nature reserve and a key site in the ambitious Great Fen restoration project. Devil's Dyke provides a remarkable linear walk stretching 7 miles to Woodditton. The village is in the heart of horse-racing country, 5 miles from Newmarket.
Cambridge is 10 miles southwest, and Newmarket station (services to Ipswich and Cambridge) is 5 miles east. Street parking is available around the green.
