Bakewell Town Hall
Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1DS
Bakewell Town Hall occupies a commanding position on Bridge Street in the only town within the Peak District National Park. Built of local gritstone in 1709, this Grade II listed building combines Georgian grandeur with the rugged character of the Derbyshire Dales.
The first-floor assembly room seats 80 beneath an ornate plaster ceiling and tall sash windows overlooking the medieval bridge over the River Wye. The room has hosted civic functions for over 300 years and remains one of the Peak District's most distinguished event spaces. A ground-floor market hall provides additional flexible space.
Bakewell is synonymous with its famous pudding, and the town's Monday market has traded since 1254. Chatsworth House, seat of the Duke of Devonshire and one of England's greatest country houses, is 3 miles east. Haddon Hall, a remarkably preserved medieval manor, is 2 miles south.
The town is well-connected by road: the A6 and A619 provide access from Sheffield (13 miles), Matlock (8 miles), and Buxton (12 miles). Chesterfield station, 14 miles east, offers trains to London St Pancras via the Midland Main Line.
